In an area where every rapper seems to be moving more drugs than Rayful Edmund and killing more people than Scarface in their rhymes, it’s refreshing to have MCs that bring about lyrical originality. In comes 19-year-old NandoMcFlyy., a lyricist with more to talk about than his drug net sale. Affiliated with established producer Judah, and DMV powerhouse boutique label, Studio 43 (home to artists such as Marky, UCB, Judah, and former home of Wale), he seems to have a nice team to support him, including fashion afficianados, HOFe. Voice Of The Metro catches up with the young MC to let him introduce you to who NandoMcFlyy. is…
Voice Of The Metro: Introduce yourself to the people, homie.
NandoMcFlyy.: The name is Fernando Moore B.K.A. NandoMcFlyy., all together, 2 y’s and a period at the end. lol.
VOTM: So how did you get introduced to the hip-hop scene?
NM: Um, back when I was younger, I used to dance believe it or not. I danced to Micheal Jackson and stuff like that. I was always a fan of all types of music. Pop, Rock, Grunge, Metal, R&B, Rap. You name it, I loved it.
VOTM: So you just picked it up over the years?
NM: When I was in the 5th grade, I officialy started rapping. 6th grade, I tried to pursue it as a career. I saw dudes like Lil’ Bow Wow and was like, “Hey, I can do that too!”
VOTM: True, true, I can dig that. So, the streets are buzzing nowadays about you, especially since you’re working with DMV super-producer Judah. How did y’all end up meeting?
NM: I always followed Judah’s work. I was a fan since the mixtape he did with The View Ent. They had a commercial back on the old public access channel, the old joint called “The Scene”, and I was like “Damn! This dude made the beat?” At that time, I was tryna get on with the lil’ local labels and what-not. So, I was about 13 years old and I called him and he was like “Sure! Just come through”, and I never came through. lol. 6 years later, I call him again when I was in the process of leaving my former label because of creative differences. And since then, it’s been all love.
VOTM: That’s what’s up, joe! I remember “The Scene”, by the way. Shouts out to Kavaz.
NM: No doubt. Shouts out to Kavaz!
VOTM: So after a long wait, you finally dropped TheCarryOut Mixtape, sponsored by HOFE. It seems that you’ve gotten good feedback on it…how do YOU feel about the mixtape though?
NM: I feel it was a very strong introduction to NandoMcFlyy. from my former alias, Brandon Streetz. I kinda feel like more could have been done as far as promotion, but it’s all good though. I’m happy with the project 100%.
VOTM: Glad to hear that. So what’s next for NandoMcFlyy.?
NM: FlyerLearning, my debut EP with my big brother Judah, THEE Best rapper/producer in the D.M.V. area HANDS DOWN! Doing these shoes, ghostwriting for these niggas lol. Selling these sneakers and making money.
VOTM: That’s what’s up, man…tell Judah he better drop that mixtape! So now we gotta go through this, cuz it’s only right…favorite go-go band?
NM: Oh, right now I’m lovin Mambo Sauce. That “Welcome to D.C.” joint is sickkkk!
VOTM: Favorite carry-out?
NM: Eddies Carry Out, right off of Livingston Rd. But they getting fixed up, so Danny’s for now.
VOTM: Favorite clothes store?
NM: Oh, with no question, Commonwealth (DC). I haven’t made any purchases but I will REALLY soon.
VOTM: Favorite DMV rapper, other than yourself?
NM: I got a few. Um….Wale gotta be the number one. Azizi Gibson. Marky. Mouse. My nigga Lyriciss. A lot.
VOTM: So we both know, there’s some bammas out there sneak-dissing and shit. Now…I’m not saying any names, but you know…if you want to, you can. I want to know how you’re feeling about that.
NM: Well…since you brought that up….lol. Sike nah, I’m not here to slander another black man tryna make a living, joe. But at the same time, if a man NEVER jumped out there, you need to chill. Niggas taking my songs and putting verses on them saying, “I got it!” over and over talking about the fact that I wear straight leg jeans ain’t hurting me, joe. I mean these niggas old as shit with comfortable lives, why they coming at me cause they can’t rap or make hit songs?
VOTM: So no response disses?
NM: I mean, a subliminal here and there. That’s enough because they’re not saying my name. But shoutout to the haters…HATE IS THE NEW LOVE. lol.
VOTM: So what exactly happened to make you leave your former label situation? Like just creative differences? ‘Cuz i know that your style can’t really be defined…was that a problem for them?
NM: Well…first off, I’m young and it takes a young artist time to find himself, so before I became NandoMcFlyy., I was B.Streetz, you know? And when I was B. Streetz, I wasn’t writing what I wanted to write. I was sometimes told to rap about doing things that I have never done. I have NEVER owned a gun, I have NEVER sold drugs. I mean, don’t get me wrong, my life was not the sweetest, but I never saw myself going that route. The last couple months with them were difficult because after being with someone so long, you don’t know how to break the news and explain how you’re leaving and the reason behind it because you looked up to this person and you don’t want them to be blown because of your choice. But at the same time…niggas were being sneaky. I asked for my mixtape to be free and I didn’t get it. Other situations, too. That would take all day to explain. Make a long story short, this nigga wanted me and him to have a Baby and Wayne relationship, and I was like “FUCK NO!” The niggas there are being sold dreams and fed bullshit. And being told to make “SO CALLED DISS SONGS” about me! Yeah, so at the end of the day, I’m nobody’s puppet.
VOTM: I can dig that, and for real, I hear the progression between TheCarryOut and your old mixtape, The Future.
NM: Thank you.
VOTM: Any last words for the people?
NM: Um…look out for me doing it bigger than last year. Oh, I wanna give some shout outs, too. Man, shouts out to my family, Judah, Marky, The WHOLE HOFe fam, my girl, Lyriciss, Z, Savage, Mouse, man, everyone! Check out the MySpace page and add me (myspace.com/nandomcflyy202). Hit me on AIM - NANDOMCFLYY202, I respond to everyone. BOWIE, LARGO, MITCHELLEVILLE, UPPER MARLBORO, LANDOVER, SOUTHEAST, NORTHEAST, NORTHWEST, SOUTHWEST, Everyone out NOVA, from the HIGHWAY to Springfield to Potomac Mills, all that shit! And I’m gone.
