VOTM Interview: Britagne

Voice Of The Metro: Introduce yourself to the world, babes.

Britagne: I’m Britagne A.L. Miller, born and raised in Philly, now here in the DMV and I love it. Truly the Diva of the DMV.

VOTM: I can dig that. So for the people that don’t know, let them know what you do!

B: I am an R&B singer and songwriter. Britagne’ is my name to the world!

VOTM: True. so how did you get into singing and writing?

B: I have a very musically-inclined family. My dad sings, plays all instruments, writes, and produces. My mother sings and plays the piano. My grandfather is in a quartet group. My grandmother sings and plays the piano for a LIVING. And my uncle plays for a living. I would make up lyrics at the age of 4 on up, and then of course I was in the church choirs, but I was always interested!

VOTM: Wow, so you basically was born for it.

B: Definitely.

VOTM: So who are your musical inspirations and influences?

B: OMG! MICHAEL… I know its so “typical” to say that but I can’t get enough of his groove…his lyrics…his voice…his music. Also, Stevie Wonder…same concept…I grew up on him, too.

VOTM: No doubt, musical icons.

B: And as of this day and age, I would DEFINITELY say Keyshia Cole. Her lyrics, I can feel her…and that’s exactly how I want to come at my fans and audience.

VOTM: Word, you want them to relate to you. I dig. So who have you worked with so far?

B: I have worked with 3 The Hard Way and C-Low the Rookie, both from the DMV, and I got a couple of more locals that I am going to work with, too, but they DEFINITELY helped me get where I am and I thank them sooo much. And also DJ Rob from Target Squad!!! That’s my big bro - well, little bro. They are all a big help.

VOTM: Stamp that, shouts out to Target Squad! So what do you have in the works right now?

B: I am working on my first song as a solo artist. It’s called “Tainted”, and it was produced by a newcomer named Stephanie. I heard the track and I HAD to have it. And, of course, photoshoots to promote, currently under a NEW label called Goddess Ent., and just networking and promoting. I’m also gonna be featured on about 3 tracks on “Best In The City 2″ from C-Low the Rookie.

VOTM: That’s what’s up, you’re definitely on your grind. So what do you feel makes you different from other R&B singers in the game right now? What do you bring that’s unique?

B: I think it’s my sound for one. We had a discussion about my sound the other night and they really couldn’t compare my voice to anyone and I hear that my voice is unique. I really take pride in that. Plus, I think my writing…I always write about past experiences - musical therapy. Because life ain’t always in the club, having fun, and being all in love. A song can change your life just like a book, a Bible verse, or any regular advice.

VOTM: I FEEL YOU! Definitely…so now, the DMV section of questions. Favorite go-go band?

B: I like ‘em all, I swear!!! BYB, TCB, Mambo (Sauce), they’re all tight.

VOTM: Favorite carryout?

B: Boy!! I SO live in the suburbs!! I only been to one carryout!! I’m so embarrassed!

VOTM: Favorite clothing store?

B: Hmmm…thats a good one. Dang! How bout “favorite mall”!! I’m a addict at shopping.

VOTM: Aight, you get a substitution LOL.

B: Yes!!! My favorite mall[s] - Columbia, Annapolis, The BLVD, Georgetown, and PG Plaza.

VOTM: Favorite rapper out of the DMV? You can name more than one if you want

B: Hmm…Lyriciss. C-Low the Rookie. Young Boi. Wale.

VOTM: Favorite singer(s) out of the DMV?

B: Me, myself and I. Sike nah…I’mma say Ginuwine, Toni Braxton, Lil’ Mo, me, the female singer in Mambo Sauce, sheesh, I love herrr!! Chris Brown and Trey Songz!!! And J. Holiday is def. on his grind!

VOTM: So any last words for the people and/or shoutouts?

B: Yeah, I just want to say thank you to ALL of my supporters and people who have helped me throughout this last year!! I want people to DEFINITELY look out for BRITAGNE, not only being on features, but singing my original music so you know the REAL me. Shoutouts to all friends and family who know I can do this, the DMV, and YOU, BOO! This is a GOOD look!
