KT: It’s your boy, KT aka Mr. All I Do Is Rap, checkin’ in!!!

VOTM: So for the people that ain’t up on this DMV rap movement, let them know about you…give some history, what you’ve done, and what you’re gonna do.

KT: 3 solo mixtapes, featured on over 20 mixtapes, All I Do Is Rap v.3 is on the way soon, Unstoppable Tae N Kay mixtape coming soon. I signed with Hitter Quitter Records in September of 2007, and I’m looking for my major deal.

VOTM: Oh yeah, that’s a big move right there. Hitter Quitter! Shouts out to Southeast Slim and the whole EMP!

KT: Yeah, them my dudes right there! They put me on the roster and we ain’t lost yet!

VOTM: So KT, you’ve been buzzin’ for more than a lil’ while. You’re one of the top unsigned rap artists in MD (ranked on MySpace) for the longest periods of time IK’ve seen…how did you start in the game?

KT: Yeah, MySpace is a life saver, lol. I started rapping when I was 5, no bullshit. My pops was a DJ and he used to spin records around the crib (Doug E. Fresh, Kurtis Blow, etc.) and I would learn them faster than my damn ABCs. In all honesty, I wrote my first song when was about 9 or 10 years old.

VOTM: So, all-in-all, ‘07 was a big year for you…what do you have planned for ‘08?

KT: Oh man, All I Do Is Rap Volume 3, maybe 4 and 5 also. I think I’mma start a new series after 5. I’m releasing Tae Barz’s project, “Tae Barz Was Here”, in January. UTK Duo mixtape is coming in the second quarter. I’m trying to get a major deal by the end of this year. I think it’s well deserved by now! Pretty much everything I did last year, but more and better.

VOTM: True, true…shouts out to Tae Barz…met him once up at PGCC, passin out his mixtapes. Tae, holla at me for your interview, joe!

KT: Yeah, we’re doing interviews galore already this year.

VOTM: So tell everybody, man…what makes KT so different from all of these other rappers in the DMV? Or all of these rappers out here, period?

KT: What makes me different…I have my own style. I make the song interesting when I’m on it. Most people tell me when I’m on the song, they don’t even notice anybody else because I have a dominating presence on the track. I also have wordplay, without using “like” or “as” all the damn time. I don’t like to toot my own horn, but I’m definitely a hard spitter with punchlines you have to decode. If the punchline is too easy, I lose interest, so I try to keep my audience studying mine.

VOTM: Word, keeping hip-hop interesting…that’s missing nowadays. So what’s your inspiration to do this music?

KT: My inspiration is all the people that give up on what they want or wanted to do. I’ll accept failure if I tried my hardest, but I won’t accept not trying. And the fact that there’s nobody like me in the industry makes me push harder as well. They look at me and see a kid who wanna rap. But when they hear me spit, they big like “Ohhh shit….you a grown ass man wit the flow!”

VOTM: So what MCs did you listen to growing up?

KT: Ahhhh….Bone Thugs, I was heavy on Bone Thugs. Doug E. Fresh, Will Smith (yeah, I said it, Will got flow), not 2Pac or Biggie! People be killing me when they say they were heavy on 2Pac and they like my age. ‘Pac died when I was 12. I couldn’t relate to him when I was that young. Don’t get me wrong, ‘Pac and B.I.G. was nice with it, but growing up, I was in another world.

VOTM: So now…we hit the DMV section of questions…favorite go-go band?

KT: Rare Essence

VOTM: Favorite carryout?

KT: Eddie Leonard’s

VOTM: Favorite clothing store?

KT: Ummm, probably the Men’s Shop down Eastover.

VOTM: I can dig it, grown man shit. A couple people done caught me in the K&G in New Carrollton a few times. Name some of your favorite rappers out of the DMV…ain’t gotta be only one.

KT: Wale, Tae Barz, Don Juan, Whitefolkz, Southeast Slim. Those are some of my top in the area.

VOTM: True. Shouts out to all of them. They’re on their grind! So any last words for the people and/or shoutouts?
