Voice Of The Metro: Introduce yourself to the world.
H-Tips: What’s good, people? It’s your boy H-Tips, fresh out the DMV with Jerse’ on my back. Y’all should already know me from the first mixtape, “The Garden State”, but if you don’t, you will soon!
VOTM: Stamp that. So for the people that DON’T know you, give ‘em a little history on you.
HT: Well, I was born in Elizabeth, New Jersey. I moved to the DMV area when I was a youngin. I believe I was in the 3rd grade when I first came to MD. I moved to Seat Pleasent, then to Landover, and then Brittany Place!
VOTM: True. So how did you get into the music game?
HT: Well, you know how little brothers are, looking up to their big brothers and following after them for almost anything they did. Well, my older brother was already rapping during the time I was in elementary school. I would always go with him to the studio and be like right next to him when he was writing his verses, so I was just like, “Man, I can do that” (laughs). So I just tried one day, stuck with it, and never gave up on it.
VOTM: Oh ok. And your brother is Dange from E Nation, right?
HT: Yeah, that guy…but that’s my man. (laughs)
VOTM: So who are your influences as an MC?
HT: Man, it’s a lot like…Biggie, Jadakiss, Joe Budden, Nas, Jay-Z, Beanie Siegel, and so many more.
VOTM: So what projects you got coming up?
HT: Well, the newest one that you need to be looking out for is “Broke Days Change To Fame Vol.2″, and “The Garden State DVD”. Also go cop “The Garden State Mixtape Vol.1″ if you didn’t already.
VOTM: Stamp that. So any other things happening with H-Tips?
HT: Well, I’m currently recording for “Happy Kay Year Vol.3″, which should be hitting a hood near you in about the end of July/early August. We’re also are talking about doing a video for the “Interstate” track, which is on “Broke Days Change To Fame vol.2″ featuring Naymez, fresh out of Jersey.
VOTM: Damn, that’d be a good look!
HT: Yeah, yeah, something good for the people.
VOTM: And you also run your own label, right?
HT: Yeah, FCG Ent.
VOTM: What’s happening with that situation?
HT: Well, so far, so good!!! You should really be hearing from most of the artists pretty soon! I mean, you should already know Lyriciss, Ricco, Young A, Forecast, and more, but on the newest mixtapes, you really are going to be hearing a lot of the FCG artists and a lot of the new artists that just got down with the click also.
VOTM: That’s what’s up. So now we reach the DMV section of questions…favorite carryout?
HT: Kenny’s around Brittany Place.
VOTM: Favorite go-go band?
HT: TOB
VOTM: Favorite clothing store?
HT: Aw man, um….Xios in Jersey.
VOTM: Favorite artists out of the area?
HT: WOW!!! These questions, joe! (laughs) Other than me, right? (laughs)
VOTM: (laughs) Yeah, man.
HT: Lyriciss, Pacco, KayeM, Taz Money, and the whole FCG squad. Oh, and can’t forget Dreamlife Thorobredz.
VOTM: Any shoutouts/last words for the people?
HT: Yeah, I wanna give a shout out to you, The Voice Of The Metro, all day, because this is a good thing for the area, moe. I wanna give a shout out to the whole DMV area for reading this interview. It’s really too many names to name. Oh, and also a shout out to all my peoples in Jersey, and all my goons in Brittany Place. Stay up, ya digg. Make sure y’all go cop that “Broke Days Change To Fame Vol.2″!!! Hit me up on the MySpace (http://www.myspace.com/halotips) to get a copy.
